  Grundtvig

Academy International is coordinating two Grundtvig projects.
We aim to heighten the level of cultural awareness and mutual understanding among the nationalities within Europe leading to a deeper appreciation of various cultures, heritage and values which will foster mutual respect and tolerance.
In both projects learners will also be learning some of the language of the other countries.

Talking Bikes

In the project Talking bikes, we are exchanging skills with our European partners which are in danger of being forgotten – cycle maintenance - and sharing digital skills between young and old.

The learners will then put these skills into practice in real situations when they meet and cycle in the countries involved.

Recipes for Success

Recipes for Success focuses on the food we eat, how we grow and prepare our food and the traditions that accompany food preparation. We meet regularly with partners from other countries to exchange recipes and associated skills that are in danger of being forgotten and the stories that are associated with them.

The focus will be on the use of locally grown, seasonal ingredients and the skills of making the old recipes and their translation into other languages. We will prepare for each meeting by learning some of the language of the other countries with particular focus on the recipes and traditions of each area.

These are both 2 year projects and the work is ongoing. See here what our learners have done so far.

These courses, plus the visits to Europe are funded by the Lifelong Learning Programme. If you are interested in taking part please contact Jenny Hayes, Course Director at Academy International.
